prospective aussie puppy parents

See our Puppy Application and a sample Puppy Contract.

If you would like to adopt a puppy from Ellison Family Homestead, please note the following:

1. First, contact us to be placed on the interest list to be the first to know when a litter is planned or bred.

2. Once a successful breeding is confirmed by our vet, our waitlist will open. The first people to be notified will always be those on our puppy interest list.

3. Submit an application. Download and email the Puppy Application. This can be done before or after a breeding is confirmed but must be submitted and approved before you can be placed on the waitlist for a litter. Please read the application and future contract carefully before applying. By applying for a puppy, you acknowledge that you have read them and agree to our terms.

4. If you have an approved application on file and a litter is confirmed, you will be asked to submit a nonrefundable $250 deposit paid via Venmo, Paypal, or GoodDog.com to reserve your spot on the waitlist. Prospective puppy parents will be able to choose their puppy in the order their deposit was received. We can not guarantee the number, color, or sex of the puppies in any litter before they are born. Deposits are nonrefundable as we often have to turn prospective buyers away once all puppies have been reserved. However, they are transferrable to another litter. We reserve the right to have first pick of any and all litters.

5. We will be happy to send pictures and do video chat to allow you to pick a puppy. Most puppies are reserved this way. In rare instances, we will allow prospective puppy parents to come chose their puppy at our home but only after they have received their first shots, usually at 6 weeks old. Most puppies have already been reserved by this time. You will be asked to wear clean clothes, to remove your shoes at the door, and to sanitize your hands. We understand the want to see super cute puppies in person. But, we have to protect the biosecurity of our property and can not risk anyone bringing in any potential sickness that may affect the puppies before they are fully vaccinated. Diseases like Parvo can stay in the ground for years and could potentially kill an entire litter very quickly.

6. Puppies will be ready to go to their new homes at 8 weeks. Please make arrangements to pick up your puppy here in Fresno, CA. We do not ship our puppies. We will, however, be happy to fly your puppy with a puppy nanny to your nearest airport, at your expense. If you would rather fly in to pick up your puppy, our nearest airport is Fresno-Yosemite International. We can arrange for you to pick up your puppy there. Payment of the balance is due in full before or at the time of puppy pick up via GoodDog.com, cash, Venmo, or Paypal. If paying with Paypal or Venmo using the "Purchase Protection" or "Goods and Services" options, please add an additional 3% to cover the additional costs. Regular transfers through have no additional charge. Any puppies not picked up after 10 weeks will be placed back up for adoption and you will be considered to have forfeited both the puppy and your deposit. If you place a deposit but decide you will no longer purchase the puppy, please let us know as soon as possible so we can find the puppy a new home.

7. All puppies will have had their tails docked and  age-appropriate vaccinations done by our vet. All puppies will come with a health guarantee to be free of major communicable diseases (Distemper, Parvo, Rabies, Corona) the first 24 hours and a genetic guarantee to be free of major genetic diseases for a period of one (1) year. Puppies will also come with a shot record. We require that you have your puppy checked by a licensed veterinarian within 24 hours of receipt of the puppy and continue with the vaccination schedule as recommended in the provided puppy packet. Failure to do so will make any and all health guarantees null and void. All puppy parents will be required to sign a contract for the purchase of your puppy. All new owners must be at least 18 years of age. See sample Puppy Contract.

8. All puppies will come with a health guarantee, shot record, AKC registration paperwork, ASCA registration paperwork, a bag of their current puppy food, a toy with their mother's scent, a puppy blanket with the scent of their littermates, and an AKC litter certificate with the puppy's pedigree. If for any reason any of these items are not available at the time of puppy pick up, they will be mailed to the Buyer as soon as possible.

9. All puppies must be registered starting with our kennel name "Ellison". For example, "Ellison's Insert Dog Name Here", "Ellison's A Light In The Shadows".

10. All puppies are sold with LIMITED REGISTRATION ONLY on a spay/neuter contract unless prearranged and approved ahead of time with an additional cost.

11. Bringing a puppy/dog into your home is a commitment for the life of the dog. Being a dog owner is expensive and time consuming. We expect that all prospective dog parents have taken the time to evaluate their situations before bringing a puppy/dog home. However, we understand that unexpected things do happen and as responsible breeders, we are here to support you. In the event of a life change and you can no longer care for or keep the dog, we require that the dog be returned to Ellison Family Homestead. We do not offer refunds of any kind for any reason if the dog is returned. However, as stewards of this breed, we will always accept the return of any dogs produced by us who is in need of a new home. Under no circumstances should the dog be taken or surrendered to a shelter, rescue, humane society, or rehomed. Under no circumstances will the dog be sold or given to any individual or organization that is in the business of using or marketing dogs for profit, research, experimentation, or animal fighting/violence.

Some points we want to make...

1. A puppy application is mandatory for all prospective puppy owners. As breeders, we have a responsibility to make sure that all of our puppies go to happy homes. We never want to see any of our dogs end up in a shelter. We want to get to know you and your family and make sure that this breed is the right fit for your situation. We are not looking to shame anyone but we do want to make sure that you have taken the time to evaluate your situation before bringing a puppy into your home. Please download the Puppy Application, fill it in to the best of your ability and email it to EllisonFamilyHomestead@gmail.com. Alternatively, you can fill out an application and place a deposit on GoodDog.com. Once we have reviewed your application, we will contact you for the next steps.

2. No, we do not negotiate our puppy prices. Puppy prices may change at anytime. Our puppies are priced to reflect the time, effort, and quality of our puppies. If you are concerned about the price of a puppy, consider the vet bills, genetic testing, certifications, health checks, vaccinations, training, registrations, etc. that the breeder had to pay in order to give you a puppy that was a good representation of its breed. The cost of dog ownership does not stop once you have purchased the puppy either. You are choosing an Aussie for a reason. Don't you want to make sure the Aussie looks, acts, and works like an Aussie should? Yes, you can purchase a puppy from just about anywhere and they may well turn into wonderful dogs. But with a responsible breeder, you can expect predictable temperaments, size, coat, drive, ability... Basically, an Aussie that looks and acts like... well, an Aussie.
