This breed will not be available until April 2025. You may place an order but keep in mind there will be a wait for hatching eggs and chicks.
The Liege Fighter, or Luikse Vechter as it is known in its native Belgium, is a beautiful, large bird originally bred for the cock pit. Our flock is made up of the blue, black, and splash variety. Both roosters and hens are large, heavy bodied, muscular birds. Although not as tall as the Indio Gigante, the Liege Fighters can easily outweigh them due to their wide bodies. We've had roosters weigh upwards of 12+ lbs. For fun, we once bred an Indio Gigante/Liege Fighter rooster which weighed in at 16lbs! The Liege has large natural spurs, is highly alert, and extremely strong. They have no fear and are often found following us around the farm like dogs. Although bred as a game bird, they are not overly aggressive towards birds that they know. We house two breeding roosters together in our breeding pen without issue. We haven't seen any aggression towards humans. Many know the Liege Fighter as "The Hawk Killer". It is large enough to challenge any bird of prey. In fact, all of the local birds of prey that nested in the neighboring trees have disappeared since bringing this breed to the farm. The roosters are amazing flock protectors. The hens are not likely to go broody and they lay large white to off white elongated eggs. Liege Fighters mature very slowly. They grow at a normal speed along with the rest of the chicken breeds. But, when the other breeds stop growing around 6-7 months, the Liege continues to get taller and more muscular. Roosters will become sexually mature around 8 months of age but usually do not reach full size until a year and a half. Hens do not usually lay until 9 months old. Both roosters and hens grow to be large and would make good table birds.
